Review
Funky, crispy, soulful, and solid. All words to describe this album. Maxayn has a very powerful voice, and dope musicians backing her up. Interesting fact, the leader of this group is also Maxayn’s husband, Andre Lewis. The group did a few albums…maybe 4 or so, but this is my favorite of the them all, there’s something about the delivery of the tracks that makes this LP super solid. This one is also very diverse, it’s like, funk-soul-jazz-gospel-rock-psych, all in one. Heavy bass and monster drums explode on this joint, frequently…just when you think it’s mellowed out, then they take you to church without the hymns!!! They did a cover of The Impressions hit “Check Out Your Mind”, and they did it 20 times better than the The Impressions, but no disrespect to Curtis and the gang. The groove, “Travelin’” takes the cake for me, that’s my favorite track on this record, and it’s the most mellow, with sick drums, and a rhodes that will make yo’ mama cry!

MINDFUL, definitely a classic, definitely rare!…

Check out the sound!

Moan To The Music

Design
Probably one of my top three covers. Simply for the illustration factor, mixed in with nice fonts and simple color. This airbrushing was done by Ignacio Gomez, and the design treatments done by Designed Communications. I feel like this cover speaks for itself, so I won’t ramble. But it’s interesting how to interpret it. Does “Mindful” suggest that their minds are in the music? Because the tops of their heads are missing, along with their brains. I’m not quite sure. Anyway, the strong green gradation plays well with the brown skin tones, and brings the subjects to the front. The Maxayn logo is dope, and the font used for “Mindful” is nice as well, although I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly. I hope you all love this cover as much as I do.
