Sorry I’m a day late with this, but yesterday was CRAZY at the office.
This is a small ode to James Yancey aka Jay Dee/J Dilla. One of the greatest producers of all-time, PERIOD. He passed away February 10, 2006 due to complications with Lupus. My buddy Algorythm and I went to check out the annual DONUTS ARE FOREVER tribute show and Lupus Awareness fundraiser this past weekend (as we have done since ’06), and hearing all of Dilla’s music, seeing all of the fans, is a true blessing and a beautiful thing. Not just any music producer could get that kind of love and support…anyway, here are a few Dilla instrumentals to get you through the hump day, and celebrate Dilla’s life and his music.

I actually wrote a piece for TRACE Magazine about 2 years ago for the tribute party and photo installation held on the first anniversary of Dilla’s passing. My fave Dilla track is Two Can Win from his Donuts album…i’m sure you could identify the sample
What a PHENOMENAL TALENT!!! I know this sounds sad, but I have never heard of this brother and I feel like I have been cheated. It is a must that I go on a hunt to find and listen to more of his creations and add them to my collection. God Bless and thank you for creating this spot! the music is HOTT!!!!!
