PASSION PLAY + BAD NEWS

Tuesday

Tuesday / Usually when you hear about the Sugarhill Gang, you think of “Rapper’s Delight”, which played a role in the growth and recognition of hip-hop music. But my favorite tracks from this group are 1979′s “Passion Play” and “Bad News”. These songs were beautifully arranged with guitar riffs, a sick string layer, bass lines that will take you for a walk around the block, and topped of with some nice harmonies smoothing out the grooves. CAMP LO (DEMOS)

Camp Lo

Since posting the “Luchini” video, I’ve gone back to all of my Camp Lo records and tapes just rediscovering their sound past and present. I came across their demo tape and thought I’d share it with you all. These guys were so far ahead of their time, listen to the way they rhymed back in 1995…these are rhymes that still stand VERY strong even today. Poised, focused, on purpose, innovative, creative, just a few words that describe what the Lo brings to the table. Enjoy…

LUCHINI

Loved this when it dropped 14 years ago…still love it today. Timeless music, and very appropriate for today’s post. Everybody is anxious to get their labor day weekend started, and this track (and video) will help carry that positive energy throughout the weekend! Enjoy…

FLIPPED v19.0

MF Doom

Just another example of how to take a simple loop, enhance it and create a dope hip-hop track…although subtle, I can hear how the beat has been slightly modified from it’s original version. Listen closely to the bass line and the drums in the flipped version, one has to respect those minor hints of detail. Enjoy…
