Influenced v2.0

ORIGINAL:
Roy Ayers – He’s Coming album cover, circa 1972.

INFLUENCED:
Smif-N-Wessun – Dah Shinin’ album cover, circa 1995.

Barber Shop Style Chart.

This is a vintage barber shop styling chart from the 70′s. PURE FIRE! This was also repurposed for an ad as well, for Duke Hair Products. Notice the detail here in the cut edges of each image, the off-white background, the naming of each hairstyle (accompanied by the nice simple italicized font), the overall richness of color. This was well-thought out, from both a photographic and design standpoint.

Mood music for this one…

Maceo – Got To Get Cha

Newports and Black People.

This ad from 1970 could single-handedly be the reason why most black folks prefer to smoke Newport Menthol cigarettes, LOL! My pops smoked Newport back when I was growing up…

I feel like this track right here could be the theme music for this ad:

Wendell Harrison – Farewell to Welfare

Influenced v1.0

The album cover is very important, yet often overlooked. A powerful album cover can attract the attention of consumers, as well as support the concept of an album. These are two of my favorite covers, interesting to see how Redman was influenced by a Funkadelic record…

ORIGINAL:
Funkadelic – Maggot Brain album cover, circa 1971.
