Flipped v21.0

This version of Flipped should be pretty special due to the fact that Jay-Z never released this song commercially, it was just a HOT97 diss track (recorded over Black Rob’s instrumental to “Can I Live” f/ The Lox). So it should be a treat for the ears of those who have never heard this one. The loop is another great example that marrying dope lyrics with simple loops is still a winning combination, time and time again. Enjoy…

FLIPPED v20.0

Madlib is one of the greatest producers to EVER do it. A maximalist that can disguise his sonic output as minimalism. This version of “Flipped” demonstrates how a killer drum break sets an incredible foundation for virtually any element that gets laid on the track. Enjoy…

FLIPPED v19.0

MF Doom

Just another example of how to take a simple loop, enhance it and create a dope hip-hop track…although subtle, I can hear how the beat has been slightly modified from it’s original version. Listen closely to the bass line and the drums in the flipped version, one has to respect those minor hints of detail. Enjoy…

FLIPPED v18.0

B.I.G.

Although very successful commercially, “Hypnotize” is easily one of Biggie’s hardest beats. Spread love, it’s the Brooklyn way! Bottom line…

Flipped v18.0

flipped

This is one of those songs that was sampled from an intro break. A lot of times, the intro break was the BEST part of the song (and usually, it never sounded like the rest of the track)…so if a producer can get a pretty hard to find record with an interesting intro…it generally means less work and greater impact. Nothing wrong with that in my eyes, especially if it turns out like the selections in this version of FLIPPED! Trust me you’ll dig this…

Flipped v17.0

flipped

The original here, is one of my favorite soul songs from the 70′s, so when I heard this track flipped by one of my favorite producers, I was anxious to hear what he’d do with it. I was NOT let down, the flipped version is almost just as dope as the original. But what really put it over the top for me, was the fact that he chopped up another song from the same LP and distorted the vocals and added them to this as well. That kinda detail makes it even better, especially since the average listener may not even notice it.

Enjoy…

(this is the second track he sampled from the same LP, pay close attention to where he simply took the vocals and distorted them, he didn’t use the music from this track)

Flipped v15.0 + Flipped v16.0

Since I’ve been lazy about posting lately (blame Thanksgiving, don’t blame me lol!), I’m doing a double flipped post, dropping two at once! I think you’ll find them both interesting.

Flipped v15.0
This one is a rare find, but luckily my ears are good, when I found this sample I knew immediately that I had to share it on the blog. The sample seems simple, but listen to the whole track and you can hear where the producer took bits and pieces and stitched it all together.

Flipped v16.0
I pulled this from my stash of legendary producer samples, another simple chop…but done so flawlessly! This is one that only this specific producer would flip, he had that knack for knowing what would be hot…while most people just skim right past those parts in the record. I love this…

Flipped v14.0

The Message
One of my favorite beats right here! This is an obscure jazz record flipped into a hot hip-hop track. The sample is seemingly looped, but pay very close attention to detail on this one, there are a lot of things going on in the Flipped version that aren’t happening in the OG version of the record. If you’re deep into music, you’ll catch the subtle nuances. Enjoy…

Two separate samples that come together to make a hot beat. Took me a while to find the sample used for the “wah wah” guitar, but I think I nailed it! Enjoy…

The Message
This track was sampled by one of my favorite producers of all time, for one of my favorite emcees! He took the tension-release on this one, looped it up, added drums and created one of those totally 1997 hip-hop classics. Enjoy this one…
